August Fairs and September update

       September!!!
That means back to school even if you are retired... and back to school means school supplies.
I couldn't resist.  Aren't these the cutest notebooks?
The pens have huge diamonds on top. 💎

First up is the Napanee Fair.  It ran July 29th to August 1st this year.  There was lots to see and do and enter including a midway and demolition derby.

The ladies at the Napanee Women's Institute put on a tea.
No set price, you just make a donation.  I did this.

Everything was delicious.

What a beautiful cup and saucer.

I entered many things at the Fair.
Not all of them won, so I will just share my wins.

In the Fruits and Vegetables category...

5 Tomatoes on a stem
I placed Second!

Here's the competition.
Ok, okay...there were only three entries.

My swiss chard came in Fourth.
It did look a lot better on Friday when I dropped it off for judging.

My hydrangea came First.

In the Homecraft category...

My knitted lace scarf came second.
You can't see the lace pattern because I haven't learned how to block yet.
It is a free pattern on Ravelry.

Three Sisters Scarves # Two

He gave excellent written instructions.

So what am I working on?  Still making black hexies.  Lots and lots of them.

I still have to embroider the 5 center panels.
The original had chickens, but I am more of a cat person.

I am auditioning cat embroidery patterns.
This one is by Cheri Saffiote Payne.

Parham Fair was August 19 and 20th.
There was a frog jumping competition, best dressed pet, races and rabbits and cows and just a whole lot of fun.
We ate hotdogs and hamburgers while sitting in the stands  watching all manner of competitions.
I'd never seen a shoe toss before.

So what did I enter?

In the Baking category...

Fresh  out of the oven.
Peanut butter cookies.
Recipe from the book Food that Really Schmecks.
They received a 'Thanks for Entering' sticker.
There was fierce competition.

My Lemon Zuchini Loaf came First!

In the Fruits and Vegetables category I only entered my tomatoes.
This time they had actually ripened... I took Third.

In Homecrafts category....

My knitted shawl came First.

My quilt got a 'Thanks for Entering' sticker.
In all fairness I have to let you know that there were only two categories for quilts
 - hand quilted or
   - machine quilted.
All machine quilts, no matter their size, were judged together.

___________

Well this has been fun.  I feel more caught up.
I feel like I took the summer off.

Last year I decided to start a blog and do it for a year
- my sister decided to learn piano.
It is nice to be able to look back over the year and see that I have actually accomplished a few things.
All right, I must admit, I don't think I really finished anything much, but I did have a lot of fun starting new things.

Here's a picture from our walk yesterday.
Aren't they beautiful.

  1. Good blog. Who is the handsome man sitting next to you at the Parham fair? Are you married?

  3. So glad you are still entering in fairs and winning ribbons. You must have a huge collection by now. I'm trying to finish a piece for the EQG Hall Challenge, but won't cry if I don't get it done in time. Having too much fun actually making artwork since none was happening all during Covid. Miss you.
